The collection is notable for the large quantity of materials dealing with aspects of Ukrainian émigré life in Switzerland. The collection is comprised documents and notes concerning the various activities of Ukrainians living in Switzerland, as well as books, pamphlets and articles published in Switzerland in Ukrainian or about Ukraine.
Evhen (Eugene) Vasylovych Batchinsky was born on 24 August, 1885 in Katerynoslav (now Dnipropetrovs'k), Ukraine and died on 30 October 1978 in Bulle, Switzerland where he had lived for several years. The collection reflects Batchinsky’s passion for documenting and preserving material pertaining to Ukrainian political history and émigré activity in Western Europe. Batchinsky was involved in a number of important Ukrainian endeavours during the early 20th Century and had numerous friends and acquaintances with whom he maintained ongoing correspondence.
The fonds (collection) consists of 16 series that document the activities and interests of Evhen Batchinsky.
